Knowledge economy in higher education: key factor in educational quality

Abstract
Higher education institutions have a direct impact on the development of countries through a continuous process that aims to build knowledge to generate benefits, quality of life in the population and human development of the inhabitants; a scenario in which, in turn, professionals from various disciplines are key when they have benefited from a high-quality higher education, where the knowledge economy plays a leading role; precision that has given rise to this article whose objective is to analyze some theoretical and methodological foundations based on the results of some previous research related to educational quality at a higher level and with the knowledge economy. The applied methodology is based on the qualitative approach, it develops a type of exploratory research according to the search and selection of secondary sources of information that allowed examining results in this matter and that are related to improvements in educational quality on the part of the Higher education institutions in the programs they offer, highlights that the National Higher Education Information System, SNIES, there were 13,134 active qualified records, of which 6,377 corresponded to postgraduate programs and 6,757 to undergraduate academic programs; There is a concentration of the offer of master’s degrees and especially doctorates, in Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, but a significant number of these programs are also identified in Manizales and Barranquilla and as a conclusion it is pointed out that the evaluation of the quality of educational services offered by higher education is related to accreditation before the CNA.
