Abstract

This article objective is to determine the happiness at work of the official  elementary and middle  school  teachers  of  Manizales  and to establish whether there are significant differences between the  facets  of  happiness at work and personal work characteristics. The participants were 230 official elementary and middle school teachers from Manizales, whom 57% were women and 43% men, belonging to 18 official educational institutions. To carry out the measurement, a specific happiness at work scale for this type of population was constructed and validated through structural equations based on the main instruments used in the scientific literature from the perspective of job satisfaction. The results show that Manizales teachers experience moderate levels of happiness at work, the facet in which they present the greatest happiness is in operational conditions and nature of work besides personal fulfillment. Teachers are unhappy with their salary and the teacher’s social security as well. It was found that there are no significant differences in happiness according to gender, age, type of hiring, or training, but there are significant differences in the level of education and the educational institution where they work.
