Traveling to the heart of the mountain to understand the Embera language

Abstract

This reflective article aims to make known the struggle for the Embera Chamí indigenous community, to face the diverse transition due to new technologies that submerge the majority of the indigenous population, thus causing an uprooting of orality and cultural traditions. Likewise, the decline of the original language manifests a threat to its cultural heritage. According to the above, it is necessary that education exceeds to advance in a “proper education” valuing the worldview, orality and its ancestral traditions. Next, the experience of presenting oneself within the indigenous community is an affective and formative journey, subsequently, it is essential that in Colombia and in other countries from teacher training the current cultural diversity within the community is adapted to transform equity and safeguard the linguistic and cultural traditions of indigenous groups.
