Paths towards peacebuilding. From concept to colombian reality

Abstract
The article examines peacebuilding in Colombia through a conceptual and historical review of peace and its relationship with violence. The authors argue that peace should not be understood merely as the absence of war, but as a broader process linked to justice, social transformation, and the overcoming of direct, structural, and cultural violence. On that basis, the text analyzes how cultural violence becomes deeply rooted in social life, collective imaginaries, exclusion, and the legacies of coloniality, making it essential to understand peace also as a transformation of culture.
The article also argues that education is a central pathway for building a culture of peace, because it helps foster dialogue, empathy, participation, recognition of difference, and the nonviolent resolution of conflicts. In the Colombian case, this reflection is connected to the challenges of the post-agreement period, the persistence of multiple forms of violence, and the need to strengthen educational spaces capable of promoting human rights, gender equity, and collective participation. As a concrete example, the authors highlight experiences at Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas aimed at building peace through institutional action, research, and collaborative work among students, faculty, and administrators.
