Types of students in search of information about higher education

Abstract
In the last decades Chile has experienced a process of massification of Higher Education, where greater access to this level of education is generated. This does not imply equity in admission, greater permanence, nor quality of the formative processes in Higher Education Institutions. This raises the following questions: What sources of information do students in the fourth year of high school and first year of university use to learn about higher education? What information do they seek from these sources? What activities and information do they use? The objective of this study was to analyze the information seeking stage for admission to higher education in students in the fourth year of high school and first year of university, as well as in guidance counselors in secondary educational establishments in the Metropolitan Region. This article uses a quantitative methodology, of a correlational type, surveying 292 students in their fourth year of high school and 247 students in their first year of university, to find out how they use the sources of information on access to higher education. Among the main results, two classes of students were classified, a class of less informed students and a class of more informed students. Finally, control variables were compared with chi-square, giving as a result a difference in the number of students who were less informed and a difference in the number of students who were more informed.
