Resumen

El presente trabajo constituye una revisión bibliográfica sobre el tema referido. Resulta difícil, debido a la escasez de investigaciones desarrolladas con este grupo etario. Y todavía más específicamente en lo relacionado con el ejercicio físico. Cada día las personas de este grupo tienen una mayor fuerza y representatividad en la sociedad. Normalmente, la bibliografía habla de la Tercera Edad como un todo. De esta forma la Cuarta Edad ha estado sobrepuesta o dentro de esta, lo que afecta a las informaciones, pues las personas de más de 80 años poseen sus propias características bio-psico-sociales, configurando su personalidad. Es innegable que en la Cuarta Edad se acentúan los diclinos que se inician en la Tercera; y es precisamente este factor lo que justifica la necesidad de desarrollar un trabajo multidisciplinar específico con este grupo de personas. Con relación al ejercicio físico, este tiene la responsabilidad de mejorar la calidad de vida mediante una recuperación relativa, o sea hasta donde es posible, de aquellas las capacidades físicas que tienen que ver con las actividades de desenvuelve diariamente este grupo etario.
