Mentoring in educational research processes: Doctoral and master^s programs in educational sciences

Abstract
The objective of this research is to determine the importance of mentoring in educational research processes in the doctoral and master’s programs in Educational Sciences at the Technological University of Chocó in Colombia and the Universidad Santander in Mexico. A qualitative approach and fundamental research were applied. The work focused on the relationship between mentors and students, evaluating theories on mentoring, autonomous learning, and group dynamics, seeking to broaden the understanding of educational processes. The sample consisted of 18 master’s and 5 doctoral students, using questionnaires to collect data.
The results demonstrate the importance of mentors’ mastery of research methodology for guiding research work, as well as their availability for consultations and discussions. It was concluded that mentoring in educational research plays a crucial role in guiding and developing students’ research skills. It has been shown that mentors can significantly influence the quality of research and the professional development of research trainees.
