Abstract
The need to place statistics in the context of realworld problems becomes a way to connect school with social reality. The purpose is to describe how teachers in educational institutions in the municipality of Río Quito, Chocó, Colombia, carry out the teaching processes of statistics to 9th grade students. The methodology was carried out using quantitative-descriptive and projective approaches. A questionnaire was administered to 10 mathematics teachers, with the criterion that they had five years of experience teaching statistics in ninth grade. It was concluded that the teaching methods used by teachers to teach students have an impact when examples from the Chocó environment are used. In addition, the development of skills such as research, reflection, and critical thinking should be encouraged in the teaching of statistics in order to achieve knowledge acquisition.
