Abstract
This paper examines the effect of gender identity on emotional intelligence, in a sample of 150 students from the Universidad Autónoma del Carmen. To obtain the data, an instrument was applied based on the TMSS model of the MetaMood Scale of the Trait, which was translated by the Guatemala Guide by Lau. The instrument analyzes the ability, attention and strategy of emotions, as well as a general score in terms of emotional intelligence. It can be determined that there is a problem in the ability and attention of emotions, the latter being a great difference with respect to gender.
